Two Cities,
One Region

Copenhagen

Denmark's capital is one of the world's most livable cities — a place where cycling is the default mode of transport, where New Nordic cuisine has redefined global gastronomy, and where centuries of architectural history sit comfortably alongside bold contemporary design. Arriving by Øresund train, you step off at Copenhagen Central Station within walking distance of Tivoli Gardens, the Latin Quarter, and Nyhavn's colourful harbour.

Copenhagen Airport (Kastrup) is also served directly by the Øresund train, making it a convenient hub for travellers arriving from Malmö or beyond. The journey from Malmö Central to the airport takes approximately 12 minutes.

Malmö

Sweden's third city is a place of striking contrasts. Medieval cobblestones in the old town give way to the dramatic modern skyline dominated by Santiago Calatrava's Turning Torso — a twisting residential tower that has become the city's most recognisable symbol. Malmö's diverse, multicultural population has shaped a vibrant food scene and a creative energy that belies the city's relatively modest size.

The Hyllie station, located near the Swedish toll plaza, provides direct connections into central Malmö and onward into the Skåne region. For those arriving by car, the city centre is a short drive from the bridge exit.

Day Trips & Itineraries

The speed of the crossing makes day trips between the two cities entirely practical. A morning train from Malmö arrives in Copenhagen in time for a full day of sightseeing, with an evening return. Conversely, Copenhagen visitors can hop across to Malmö for lunch and an afternoon of exploration.

For those travelling by car, the wider Skåne region offers rolling farmland, medieval towns, and a dramatic coastline — all easily accessible from the bridge exit.

Commuting Across the Øresund

The bridge has created one of Europe's most remarkable cross-border labour markets. Tens of thousands of people commute daily — many living in the more affordable Swedish side while working in Copenhagen, or vice versa. Monthly and annual rail passes offer significant savings for regular train commuters.

Car commuters typically use the BroBizz subscription program for reduced toll rates. Travelling slightly off-peak — avoiding 07:00–09:00 and 16:00–18:30 — significantly reduces toll plaza queue times.
